I am excited to share some Acquarella water based nail polish swatches in the new summer colors for 2012.
Acquarella Summer Colors 2012
Date Night (Metallic Purple)
Date Night is a vibrant metallic purple nail polish. It has a purple base color with metallic silver shimmer. The color reminds me of grape flavored drink. (The sugar, water, and food coloring mixture that is not really juice.) Date Night appears very metallic in the bottle but has a more subtle shimmer on the nails.
Date Night only needed two thin coats to be opaque. I do not wear purple nail polish too often, but if you are a fan of purples, Date Night is a beautiful color.
Acquarella also offers a few other purple nail polishes. Quinceanera is a sheer shimmery lavender. Persnickety is an opaque lavender grey with a hint of shimmer. Vamp is a royal purple creme, which is darker than Date Night.
Dream Car (Metallic Blue)
As soon as I took Dream Car out of the box I thought, “Wow! I love it!” Dream car is a dark greenish blue with a blue base and green shimmer. It is not quite a teal, since it is more on the blue side. Like Date Night, it appeared more metallic in the bottle, but it was still pretty shiny on my nails. The green shimmers are gorgeous when the light hits them!
Dream Car provided good coverage even with the first coat. The photo shows it with two coats.
There is no other color like Dream Car in the Acquarella collection. There are a couple other blue nail polishes, but they look quite different. Star spangled is a royal metallic blue and Mahalo is a bright creme blue.
30 Love (Lemon Lime Green)
As soon as I saw photos of the new nail polish colors from Acquarella, I was the most excited to try 30 Love because of its uniqueness. It is the first neon colored water based nail polish that I have noticed. From the photo online I thought it would have either a creme or jelly finish, but it actually has a slight shimmery finish.
30 Love has a neon green base and yellow shimmers. Most neon colored nail polishes have a matte finish, but I think the subtle shimmer works well for this color. The nail polish goes on sheer and the first coat looked like green highlighter. It was still see-through with two coats and is meant to be semi-translucent. I first tried painting my nails with just 3 coats of 30 Love, but the ridges on my nails showed through too much. I started over again with one coat of clear Acquarella Conditioner as a base coat and then 3 coats of 30 Love. I really liked the finished look, even though there was still a bit of a visible nail line (VNL).
30 Love is the perfect nail polish color to wear with a tan this summer.
I even bought a swim suit to match my neon green nail polish!
The only other green nail polish in the Acquarella collection is Wicked, which is a shimmery green that is perfect for St. Patrick’s Day.
New Acquarella Colors Overall
The new summer colors from Acquarella include two metallic polishes that coordinate well with each other and one neon color. All of the colors contain shimmers, which accumulate at the bottom of the bottle, so they need to be shaken well before using.
30 Love is my favorite of the three, since it is different from any other nail polish that I have and the bright neon green shade is perfect for summer. Dream Car is my second favorite because it is a gorgeous blue color but more common of a color. Date Night is also lovely, but purple is just not my top choice for nail polish colors.
